Africa-Press – Angola. The minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, highlighted this Thursday, in the city of Soyo, northern Zaire Province, the approval of appropriate legislation that allowed the development of non-associated gas in Angola.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the non-associated natural gas processing plant, called the New Gas Consortium (NCG), the minister emphasized Presidential Legislative Decree No. 7/18, also known as the Gas Law, as a key instrument for the start-up and expansion of the sector.
According to the minister, with this decree Angola now has a modern, competitive and attractive legal and fiscal regime, definitively opening the doors to structuring projects, such as the NCG.
Diamantino Azevedo also highlighted the Natural Gas Master Plan, approved in 2024, a document that consolidates the sector’s strategic vision for the next 25 years and guides an integrated approach for the entire gas value chain.
“The emergence of the NCG, in 2019, allows for the acceleration of the development of non-associated gas resources in blocks 2/15, 3/15 and 14,” he stated, recalling that the final investment decision, taken in 2022, marked a new phase for the national industry.
The minister also emphasized the participation of Angolans in the development of the Quiluma and Maboqueiro offshore platforms, stressing that the Quiluma platform, built in the municipality of Ambriz by the company Petromar, demonstrates the growth of the country’s industrial capacity.
Regarding the processing plant inaugurated by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, he mentioned that it has the capacity to process 400 million cubic feet of gas per day, being the heart of the integrated system of the New Gas Consortium.
The project, led by Azule Energie and its associates, began implementation in October 2023 and was budgeted at USD 2.6 billion, generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
