SADC Diplomats Welcome Results of Africa-Europe and G20 Summits

Africa-Press – Angola. Ambassadors of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region accredited to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) expressed on frriday their satisfaction with the results achieved at the recent Africa-European Union and G20 summits held on the African continent.

According to a press release from the Angolan Embassy in Italy, the diplomats expressed their position during a coordination meeting dedicated to preparing the 179th session of the FAO Council in December. At that time, they highlighted the relevance of the final declarations of the two summits.

The Africa-Europe partnership has evolved into a comprehensive strategic agenda aligned with the priorities of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, the European Union, and the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development over the last 25 years, according to the statement.

The ambassadors stressed that, amid an international environment marked by geopolitical tensions, conflicts, poverty, persistent inequalities, digital and energy transitions, climate crises, and humanitarian crises, the summits reinforced the parties’ commitment to an international order based on law and effective multilateralism. They emphasized the need for concrete measures.

The group also highlighted that the Luanda Summit, integrated into this process, reaffirmed fundamental principles such as respect for the sovereignty of States, territorial integrity, the primacy of the UN Charter, and the need to reform multilateral institutions, including the UN Security Council, making them more inclusive and representative.

Josefa Sacko, Angolan ambassador to Italy, who presented the results of the AU-EU Summit, stated that the partnership reinforces key areas of African development, such as economic diversification, support for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), strengthening value chains, including critical minerals, and advancing key infrastructure, notably the Lobito Corridor.

According to the Angolan diplomat, the digital, energy, and climate transitions are among the main areas of work, including the commitment to guarantee clean energy for 100 million Africans by 2030, promote inclusive digitalization, and ensure fairer climate finance.

“The partnership between Africa and Europe is now more political, economic, and more oriented towards concrete actions,” said Josefa Sacko, recalling that the summits mark the 25th anniversary of the AU-EU Strategic Partnership, initiated in Cairo in 2000.

The ambassador highlighted that the reunion of the two continents in Luanda demonstrates that dialogue between Africa and Europe remains essential and must be translated into tangible results for their people.
