Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly, Adão de Almeida, leads, from Sunday, the delegation of Angolan deputies participating in the 58th Session of the Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC-PF), to run until December 5, in Durban, South Africa.

According to a press release from the National Assembly, the Angolan delegation includes, in addition to President Adão de Almeida, the deputies Pedro Sebastião, coordinator of the National Monitoring Group of the FP-SADC, Luísa Damião, Ruth Mendes, Teresa and Jol Nevada. Lazarus Kakunha.

The meeting, to be held under the theme “The Impact of Climate Change in the SADC Region and the Role of Parliaments in Mitigation and Adaptation”, brings together parliamentary delegations from all Member States and has on the agenda plenary sessions, thematic meetings and bilateral international meetings.

At the opening ceremony, South African Vice President Paul Mashatile highlighted the need to strengthen peace and consolidate African economies.

He also referred to the importance of moving forward with energy interconnection projects capable of boosting economic growth, reducing youth unemployment and universalizing access to education.

On climate change, Paul Mashatile pointed to regional priorities such as the expansion of early warning systems until 2030 and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

It also warned of the greater vulnerability of women and young people, more exposed to risks of violence, school dropout, early marriage and unwanted pregnancy.

On Monday, the Speaker of the National Assembly spoke at the integrated thematic symposium entitled “The Impact of Climate Change in the SADC Region and the Role of Parliaments in Mitigation and Adaptation”.

The meeting aims to promote the exchange of legislative experiences and strengthen the region’s concerted action in the face of climate challenges.

The symposium constituted one of the central moments of the Angolan participation, with the intervention of the President of the National Assembly on the legislative challenges related to climate adaptation in the SADC area.

The 58th Plenary Session of the FP-SADC addresses issues related to peace, security, economic integration and institutional strengthening.

Parliamentarians analyze reports and assess policies that directly influence the sustainable development of Member States.

The FP-SADC is an inter-parliamentary platform that brings together the parliaments of the member states of the Southern African Development Community.

Created to strengthen legislative cooperation, the forum promotes political dialogue, harmonization of laws and exchange of experiences between countries in the region.
