Pedro Manuel, the director of the Legal Office of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media (MINTTICS), praised the draft law on the dissemination of false news on the Internet on Wednesday in Luanda, saying that it updates the rules of the Penal Code and strengthens the digital sovereignty of the state.
The bill aims to strengthen the democratic process by combating misinformation and promoting diverse information online in Angola.
It aims to hold digital platforms accountable for their disinformation policies, increase transparency regarding paid content made available to users, and discourage the use of inauthentic accounts and accounts used to spread disinformation on web applications.
Speaking at the 2nd National Conference on Press Freedom and Access to Information in Angola, Manuel explained that the initiative responds to the increase in disinformation and the associated risks of the digital space.
The law aims to update the legal framework on digital content, strengthen information sovereignty, and ensure greater transparency in the online environment.
Manuel said the bill aims to strengthen press freedom while ensuring it is exercised with respect for truth, honor, and human dignity.
