Africa-Press – Angola. The minister of the Interior, Manuel Homem, described Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos “Nandó”, who passed away on Thursday (18) age 75, as a unique personality in the history of Angola and a man of unwavering patriotic commitment.
In a note of condolence sent, the minister wrote that the country was surprised by painful and dismaying news, losing an eminent individual, of recognized merit and exemplary public career, marked by high dedication and political lucidity.
Manuel Homem recalls that throughout his career, he held positions of high responsibility, having been Prime Minister, Vice-President of the Republic and President of the National Assembly, positions that he performed with “diligence and determination”.
He was also part of the group of personalities who were at the genesis of the Ministry of the Interior, where he held several important positions.
Among the positions he held were Minister of the Interior, Head of the Sectoral Political Directorate of Internal Order, Head of the Political Department of the National Directorate of the People’s Police, National Director of Personnel and Staff, Deputy National Political Director, Deputy Minister of the Interior, Deputy Minister of State Security, Head of the Information Services and Commander-General of the National Police, as well as Deputy Minister of the Interior for Internal Order.
For the minister of the Interior, Nandó’s death represents an irreparable loss for the Angolan Nation, which bids farewell to one of its most devoted sons, whose actions were decisive in crucial moments of the consolidation of the State and the affirmation of republican institutions.
Manuel Homem stressed that his absence leaves a profound void, stating that the country bows with respect before his memory.
He therefore extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, expressing his wishes that they find comfort in the honor of his legacy and the eternity of his example.
