UK Recognizes Angola as a Benchmark in Transparency

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola was recognized on Wednesday (17) by the United Kingdom as an example of good practices in transparency, during the 11th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (CoSP), which has been taking place since Monday (15) in Doha, Qatar, since Monday.

According to a press release that, the recognition was made official during the technical sessions of the Conference, which included the participation of the Angolan delegation, headed by the Inspector-General of State Administration, João Manuel Francisco.

On the occasion, the UK highlighted the initiative of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to make available an institutional website that allows public access to detailed information on assets recovered in the context of the fight against corruption.

According to the International Anti-Corruption Coordination Centre, this practice strengthens public trust, promotes accountability and constitutes an experience that can be replicated by other States, within the framework of the transparency and accountability measures foreseen in the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

The international recognition confirms the progress achieved by Angola in consolidating a system for the prevention and repression of corruption aligned with international standards and with the commitments assumed by the Angolan State within the framework of the UNCAC.

On the sidelines of the event, the Angolan delegation held a meeting with officials from the Portuguese Anti-Corruption Mechanism, during which prospects for future cooperation in the field of prevention and combating corruption were analyzed, with emphasis on the National Strategy for the Prevention and Repression of Corruption (ENAPREC).

Portuguese officials expressed interest in deepening institutional cooperation with Angola, mostly in the exchange of experiences, technical capacity building, and the sharing of best practices in matters of integrity, transparency, and public governance.

At the Conference’s High-Level Political Session, Angola presented the main advances made in recent years in the fight against corruption and reiterated the firm political commitment of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to consolidating public integrity, strengthening institutions, and combating corruption in all its forms.

In the same context, the country highlighted the reforms and structural actions implemented within the framework of ENAPREC (National Strategy for the Prevention and Repression of Corruption), the United Nations Convention against Corruption, and the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption.

Between 2022 and 2025, the Government strengthened the institutional and legislative framework, with particular emphasis on consolidating the General Inspectorate of State Administration as the central internal control body, modernizing the disciplinary, financial and criminal accountability regime, and adopting public ethics standards.

The fight against corruption is a strategic priority for the Angolan State, which remains committed to deepening the structural reforms initiated in 2017, supported by a firm political will and coordinated action by public institutions.

The Angolan delegation is fulfilling, in Qatar, the duties of the Inter-ministerial Commission created by Presidential Decree No. 184/24, of August 14, coordinated by the Minister of State and Head of the Staff of the President of the Republic, Dionísio Manuel da Fonseca.

The delegation includes representatives from the Staff of the President of the Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Attorney General’s Office, the National Bank of Angola, and the Financial Information Unit.
