Africa-Press – Angola. The minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Mass Media, Mário Augusto da Silva Oliveira on Friday, in Luanda, considered the former Vice-President of the Republic, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, also known as “Nandó”, an illustrious son of the Nation and a high-ranking leader of the Angolan State.

In a note of condolence for the death of the nationalist last Thursday, Mário de Oliveira stated that Nandó’s trajectory is intrinsically linked to decisive moments in the construction, strengthening and modernization of the Angolan nation.

Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos was born on March 5, 1950, in Luanda and, since the early years of the formation of the Republic of Angola, has stood out as a historical figure with national and international recognition.

According to Mário Oliveira, the former Vice-President of the Republic, who has just passed away, demonstrated a high sense of state throughout his public career, holding positions of great responsibility, namely Commander-General of the National Police (PN), Deputy Minister of Interior, Minister of Interior, Prime Minister and Speaker of the parliament.

The statement adds that Nandó’s actions, marked by dialogue, cordiality, and patriotic commitment, demonstrated his potential towards the administrative, social, and political organization of Angola, with a significant impact on the development of telecommunications, information technologies, and mass media in the country.

The document also states that, in a context of strengthening state institutions, affirming peace, and improving the social and economic conditions of the population, the death of Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos represents a significant loss for the governance and history of Angola.

At this time of mourning, Minister Mário Oliveira, on his own behalf, as well as of the staff of the Ministry and on behalf of media professionals, extends his deepest condolences and solidarity to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues.
