Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço and the members of the Cabinet Council observed a minute of silence on Tuesday at the beginning of its 12th Ordinary Meeting in homage to the late first Vice-President of Angola, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.
The gesture symbolized the government’s respect and recognition for the statesman’s contribution to the construction and consolidation of the Angolan State.
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos passed away last Thursday in Luanda and was buried on Monday in a state funeral, held on a day of national mourning decreed by the President of the Republic.
A leading figure in national political life, “Nandó” held high state responsibilities throughout his career, notably as Speaker of the National Assembly and Vice-President of the Republic.
