Angola Presents Kwenda Program Results at Dubai Summit

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola presented (Wednesday) at the World Government Summit (WGC) in Dubai the results of its main social projects of recent years, including the Integrated Local Development and Poverty Reduction Program, implemented through the Kwenda social aid initiative.

Delegates to the World Government Summit, which is taking place from February 3rd to 5th in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), were informed of the impact of these programs, with particular emphasis on Kwenda, which aims at monetary social transfers and basic food baskets, as well as incentives for income-generating activities.

The information was presented by the Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS), during her intervention in the round table on Achievements and Challenges of the Global South, one of the working sessions of the second day of the Summit’s agenda.

At the time, Teresa Dias explained that Angola is an active partner in the Global Inclusive Development Agenda and has aligned its public policies with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union (AU) Agenda 2063.

In this context, he explained, the country has contributed to multilateral negotiations, which aim to balance the economic, social and environmental dimensions of inclusive development, in terms of eradicating extreme poverty, climate change, food security and energy transition.

She explained that, in the field of social protection, Angola has implemented, among others, the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty, through Kwenda, benefiting 67,349 families, in vulnerable situations, in 17 of the country’s 21 provinces, in the period 2023-2024.

The Minister also mentioned the Social Action and Family Valorization Program, which aims to provide social support with assistance to elderly people, disabled people and children in communities, having benefited seven thousand,608 families, in 12 of the country’s 21 provinces.

Another similar initiative underway in the country is, according to Minister Teresa Dias, the Gender Equality Program, focused on capacity building, training and distribution of small business kits to young women, which benefited 2,295 girls in the areas of Cutting and Sewing, Commerce, Pastry and Civil Construction.
