The Minister of State and Head of the Military House of the President of the Republic of Angola, Francisco Pereira Furtado, highlighted, on Wednesday, in the province of Cabinda, the progress achieved by the country, in recent years, in the socio-economic, political, cultural and external spheres.
When speaking at the central event celebrating the 65th anniversary of the beginning of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation, Francisco Pereira Furtado stated that the signs of the commitments made at the beginning of the mandate of the President João Lourenço are visible at all levels, with emphasis on the construction of various infrastructures.
In the field of health, the government official highlighted the construction of hospitals in several provinces of the country, throughout the current legislature.
He said that statistics show that thanks to the investments made, the National Health Service currently has 3,335 health units, compared to the 320 that existed in 1975, at the time of independence.
Francisco Pereira Furtado said that, by the third quarter of 2025, the country had 44 thousand hospital beds available, 1,600 of which were for intensive care.
In the field of social protection, there was a considerable increase in the number of beneficiaries of monetary social transfers, which went from 610 thousand 382, in the first quarter of 2025, to the current number of more than one million.
In relation to the number of families assisted with a basic food basket, it went from 23 thousand 070 households to 93 thousand 624.
In the field of road infrastructure, housing and community services, the country has made great progress, with a direct impact on the well-being of families and companies.
“As a result of the political stability that the country has experienced for almost 24 years, the Executive has a vision of the country’s future, shaped by long-term strategies,” he said.
Francisco Pereira Furtado recalled that Angola’s human development index surpassed the sub-Saharan region of the continent and converged with the Southern African Development Community.
“Today we have a universal education system and we have doubled the number of years of schooling” he stated.
Regarding the celebration of February 4th, the Minister of State reaffirmed that the date symbolizes the courage and determination of the people who rose up against colonial oppression, affirming their inalienable right to self-determination.
He considered this heroic action as the clearest expression of the Angolans’ will to decide their own destiny, preserve their identity, their cultural values, as well as build a sovereign nation with sacrifice.
The event, which took place under the motto “Preserving the values of the country, let us honor our heroes”, constitutes an extremely important action for the affirmation of independent Angola.
