Africa-Press – Angola. The Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Morocco, Ms Saadia El Alaoui, at the National Assembly (Angolan parliament), in Luanda, highlighted the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, during an audience granted to him by the Speaker of the Angolan Parliament, Adão de Almeida.
In statements to the press at the end of the meeting, the Moroccan diplomat stressed that his visit aimed to congratulate Adão de Almeida on his recent appointment as Speaker of the Angolan Parliament, as well as to express his country’s happiness, given the excellent existing relationships between the two African nations.
According to Saadia El Alaoui, they discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, with special emphasis on the exchange of experiences and information, as well as the holding of regular consultations between both legislative institutions.
The ambassador also noted the existence of the Memoranda of Understanding signed in 2023 between the two Parliaments. According to her, this document has significantly contributed to strengthening bilateral parliamentary cooperation.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the officials to discuss the role of the Morocco-Angola Parliamentary Friendship Group, which, according to a diplomat, already exists and should continue to work actively, promoting joint initiatives and deepening the historical ties of friendship between the two countries.
Parliamentary cooperation also encompasses dialogue on topics of common interest, such as sustainable development, peace, climate change, the energy crisis, the fight against poverty, youth promotion, gender equality, and the training of parliamentary staff.
She stated that for the authorities of both countries, the consolidation of these mechanisms represents a new stage in cooperation between Angola and Morocco, strengthening channels of political dialogue and legislative collaboration between the two nations.
