Governor Emphasizes Carnival'S Role in Cultural Legacy

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Cabinda, Suzana de Abreu, highlighted on Monday the importance of Carnival in passing on the legacy of the region’s history and culture to the new generation.

Speaking to the press at the end of the 2026 provincial Carnival parade, Suzana de Abreu acknowledged the positive way in which young people have been able to interpret the region’s cultural habits through music, dances, and other cultural expressions.

The governor urged the groups to continue disseminating the truth in art, culture, and science, in order to strengthen and rescue the cultural, moral, and civic values that characterize the peoples of the region.

Abreu highlighted the importance to continue experiencing carnival, to know the cultural identity, as well as everything that unites and identifies Angolans as one people, having praised the quality of the messages transmitted by the Carnival groups, highlighting traffic accidents, sexual harassment, sexual abuse, and domestic violence.

The governor considered all participating groups winners, as they brought joy to the population with dances, songs, and theater performances that demonstrated it is possible to celebrate Carnival in the streets.

“This demonstrates that culture is a vehicle for messages that identifies us and unites us in the pursuit of work and the development of the country” she said.
