Africa-Press – Angola. Former Interior Minister Sebastião Martins emphasized on Wednesday that the decoration awarded by President João Lourenço to retired chief commissioners and senior officers of the National Police constitutes public recognition of their contribution and reinforces their responsibility to continue serving the country.

Speaking to the press after the ceremony, which was part of the celebrations of the corporation’s 50th anniversary, he expressed pride in the distinction, stressing that the moment symbolizes not only the appreciation of those honored, but of the entire police force.

Sebastião Martins considered the distinction a unique moment for those who have served for decades in different roles, emphasizing that the recognition confirms their professional trajectory and reinforces their commitment to continue serving the nation.

He stated that the officers fulfill their duty with a spirit of dedication and without expectation of recognition, but initiatives of this nature bring satisfaction by demonstrating that the State values the contribution made to public security.

The former minister also emphasized that the ceremony reflects the government’s vision regarding the strategic importance of the National Police, as a fundamental body for public security, stability, and the well-being of citizens.

To the young police officers, Sebastião Martins urged dedication, selflessness, and continuous commitment to training and excellence in the service provided to the population.

He stressed that a police career demands sacrifice and responsibility, but constitutes a noble mission whose contribution is recognized by the nation, having highlighted the role of historical figures in the corporation and expressed his willingness to continue sharing experience and knowledge, in order to contribute to institutional strengthening and the affirmation of Angola as a safe country.

Gratitude and encouragement

Also decorated, retired chief delegate Eduardo Fernandes Cerqueira expressed gratitude and pride for being part of the group of honored officers and extended the recognition to his family, colleagues, and agents not yet distinguished.

He encouraged the young people to pursue their careers with dignity and discipline, in order to honor the good name of the corporation.

The former commander-general of the National Police, Paulo de Almeida, on his turn, stated that the distinction represents recognition for the work, struggle, and dedication to the nation over five decades.

He highlighted the corporation’s preponderant role in maintaining order, public tranquility, and consolidating peace and considered the initiative motivating for current and future officers, as it encourages them to continue the work developed over the institution’s 50 years.
