Africa-Press – Angola. The National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE) has invested 56 million US dollars to acquire and install 1.2 million electricity pre-paid meters throughout the country, the head of the Lot 3 project, João Luyeye, announced.
He said the measure is part of the modernization and expansion program of the electricity distribution system, with the aim of improving billing efficiency, reducing commercial losses and allowing greater control of consumption by customers.
João Luyeye highlighted that the massive implementation of prepaid meters will ensure greater transparency in billing and contribute to the financial sustainability of the electricity sector.
The initiative is part of ongoing reforms in the energy subsector, aimed at increasing the electrification rate and improving the quality of services provided to the population.
With this investment, he said ENDE reinforces its commitment to technological modernization and continuous improvement of services, aligning itself with the public policies defined by the government for the energy sector in Angola.
The provincial director of ENDE in Namibe, Pedro Samuel, said the project will help combat illegal connections, strengthen control and reliability of metering, and promote greater discipline in energy consumption.
He explained that the initiative will also ensure financial resources for reinvestment in service improvement.
