Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu, on Thursday in Cabinda Province launched an international public tender for the management concession of the Caio Deepwater Terminal in that side of the country.
The concession will last for 20 years and covers the rights to use and operate the public assets of the port domain assigned to the terminal, whose proposals can be submitted until July 27th of this year.
The tender is aimed at operators or consortia with proven experience in the management of international port terminals, technical, financial and operational qualifications, including relevant experience in port concessions, financial soundness and proven capacity to manage significant cargo volumes.
Among the main criteria are the value of the concession and the quality of the technical proposals, namely the Development Plan and the Operation and Management Plan.
The tender is part of the Angolan government’s strategy to modernize and increase the competitiveness of the port sector by promoting efficient infrastructure management and strengthening Angola’s logistical position in the regional context.
The international public tender process is conducted under the principles of transparency, competition, as well as rigor, and is open to international operators with proven experience in large-scale port infrastructure.
At the time, the Minister of Transport, Ricardo Viegas de Abreu, stated that the launching act of the international public tender for port infrastructure represents a clear commitment to transparency, competition, and the selection of partners with technical capacity, proven experience and a long-term vision.
In turn, the provincial governor of Cabinda, Suzana de Abreu, highlighted the importance of port infrastructure for opening the region to the world from an economic point of view.
The project is located approximately eight kilometers from the city of Cabinda, the terminal has a structured port infrastructure, designed for container operations, with capacity for large ships, including vessels of up to five thousand Twenty-Foot Equivalent Unit (TEUs).
In its initial phase, the project includes approximately 32 hectares of operational area, 700 meters of commercial quay, an access channel 180 meters wide and 15.5 meters deep, and an access bridge approximately two kilometers long.

The location of the Port of Caio, located on the Atlantic coast of Central Africa and close to Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), gives it a strategic position for regional trade, allowing the consolidation of logistical flows and the integration of currently dispersed supply chains.
The project is part of an integrated vision for the development of the northern logistics corridor, linking port, rail and border infrastructures, with the objective of cooperation, regional connectivity and economic competitiveness.
It is estimated that the project will have a significant impact on the local and regional economy with the creation of direct and indirect jobs, and the revitalization of the productive fabric of the province of Cabinda.
