Embassy Announces Population Census for Angola Community

Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Embassy in Zambia announced in Livingstone the relaunch, later in the current month, of the 2026 Population Census of the Angolan community residing in that country, with the aim of updating the figures.

The announcement was made official by the Angolan ambassador to Zambia, Albino Malungo, during the celebrations of April 4th, National Peace and Reconciliation Day, held in the city of Livingstone.

According to a press release from the diplomatic mission, the process will last one month and will cover Angolan citizens residing in the provinces of Lusaka, Copperbelt and Livingstone.

The Census will be carried out by Angolan community coordinators, with the support of Embassy technicians, who will ensure the necessary material and financial resources for the work.

For data collection, the door-to-door method will be adopted, with teams deployed to cover urban and rural areas, with a view to identifying and registering members of the Angolan community.

According to the document, the Census is a fundamental instrument for determining, with greater precision, the size, location, affiliation, age, occupation, and needs of Angolan citizens residing in Zambia.

The initiative also aims to support the definition of public policies and strengthen consular assistance to the community.

Estimated data indicate that there are approximately 30,000 Angolans and their descendants residing in Zambia, of which more than 12,000 are undocumented.

Livingstone, the city chosen for relaunching the process, is located in southern Zambia, near the border with Zimbabwe, and stands out for its proximity to Victoria Falls, one of the largest waterfalls in the world.

In addition to the tourism sector, agriculture is important to the local economy, with the production of maize, cotton, and tobacco, as well as livestock farming.
