Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, advocated on Friday for the establishment of a Center for Studies and Scientific Research at the National Archives of Angola (ANA) to enhance the scientific rigor of the study of the country’s contemporary history.

According to a press release sent, the minister made the statement at the opening of the conference cycle commemorating the Day of the Liberation of Southern Africa and the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, adding that the initiative aims to integrate the ANA into the National System of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

The minister stated that institutionalizing this center would allow for an approach to Angola’s historical memory ensuring that facts are analyzed with the necessary academic depth.

Zau stated that “Angolan identity” is a constantly evolving process based on four pillars: “Bantu civilization roots,” “permanent contact with European civilization, mainly with the Portuguese,” and “natives, associative, and proto-nationalist claims.”

The event brought together government officials, academics, and civil society representatives, reinforcing the National Archives’ role as guardians of collective memory and forums for scientific debate.
