Africa-Press – Angola. Angola won 19 gold and 14 silver medals on Tuesday (14), in the first fights of the 2026 IMMAF African Championship, which opened on that day at the Cidadela pavilion in Luanda.

The Angolan athletes obtained the medals after fights in the youth categories (B and C) in both genders.

In the men’s category, Ildrio António stood out, winning gold in the 44kg category, defeating his compatriot Arlindo Tonito in the final.

Rosário Gomes won gold in the 48kg category, surpassing Nataniel Israel, while Hilário Tolentino won in the 52kg category and Elino da Cunha in the 34kg.

Also in the men’s category, Leontino da Graça won the 30kg final against Cristia da Silva, Caetano Cardoso triumphed over Raimundo Jamba in the 34kg category, Gelvani Ginga beat Fábio Augusto in the 37kg category, and Graciano Vasco won against Walter Francisco in the 40kg category.

In turn, Armando Panzo (40kg), Amadeu da Graça (48kg), Isaías Motondo (52kg) and Neves Alfredo (57kg) won gold due to the absence of their opponents in their respective categories.

In the women’s class, the gold medals were won by Gabriela Cerqueira (44kg), Stélvia Muhanha (48kg), Fernanda Sebastião (62kg), Albertina Ntyamba (67kg), Serafina Fernando(40kg) and Alexandrina Neto (57kg).

The competition resumes on Wednesday (15), with fights in the youth A and junior categories.

In addition to Angola, the title holder, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Cameroon, Ghana, Tunisia, Mauritius, South Africa, Zambia, Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe are participating in the event.
