The minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Albano Ferreira, stated on Friday that the Luanda Science and Technology Park (PCTL) represents a strategic milestone for strengthening scientific research, technological innovation, and economic diversification.
The minister made these statements at the ceremony preceding the official inauguration of the infrastructure, an event led by the Head of State, João Lourenço, in the country’s capital.
According to Albano Ferreira, the opening of the PCTL aims to make a reality one of the most important initiatives foreseen in the national policy for science, technology and innovation, which seeks to bring higher education institutions, research centers, companies and the market closer together.
The minister also considered that the infrastructure constitutes an important instrument to promote a culture of innovation, increase business competitiveness and stimulate the transfer of knowledge and technology to the productive sectors of the economy.
“The Luanda Science and Technology Park’s main objective is to strengthen the link between the scientific community, research institutions, universities, and the business sector, creating an environment conducive to the development of innovative solutions to the country’s challenges”, he highlighted.
He stated that science and technology parks play a crucial role in the sustainable development of nations, by fostering the emergence of technology-based companies, the creation of innovative projects, as well as to the valuing of scientific knowledge.
At the time, he thanked the Head of State for his leadership and strategic vision in promoting human capital and national scientific development, as well as all the partners involved in the conception and execution of the project.
He further emphasized that the PCTL aims to reinforce the conditions for scientific research and advanced training in the country, contributing to the creation of qualified jobs and the construction of a knowledge-based economy.
The official added that the new infrastructure will allow higher education institutions, researchers, companies, and public entities to work in an integrated way in the search for solutions to Angola’s economic and social challenges.
The Luanda Science and Technology Park, was inaugurated this Friday by President João Lourenço and is considered one of the most important national platforms for promoting scientific research, innovation, and technological entrepreneurship.
The infrastructure was designed to contribute to national scientific and technological production and houses a scientific research center, specialized laboratories, research centers, a technology business incubator, spaces for established companies, a scientific library, an auditorium with a capacity for 250 people, offices, restaurants, a commercial area, a research greenhouse, sports facilities, and green areas.
The park also provides technological and sustainable solutions, including solar energy systems, charging stations for electric vehicles, modern digital infrastructure, and a parking lot with capacity for approximately 600 vehicles.
Among the main beneficiaries of the project are Agostinho Neto University, the National Center for Scientific Research, the National Institute for the Promotion of the Information Society, the Atomic Energy Regulatory Agency, as well as startups and technology-based companies.
The Luanda Science and Technology Park ́s mission is to strengthen the national scientific research system, promote innovation and technology transfer, support the creation of innovative companies, attract technological investment, foster intellectual property, as well as to contribute to the diversification of the national economy.
