Africa-Press – Angola. Adalberto da Costa Júnior was re-elected president of UNITA, Angola’s largest opposition patrty, on Sunday in Luanda, with 91% of the votes, during the party’s 14th Ordinary Congress.
The politician defeated Rafael Massanga Savimbi, who ran for the leadership of the opposition party for the first time.
After the vote count, Adalberto Costa Júnior was confirmed with 1,100 votes against 110 for his opponent.
The 14th Ordinary Congress of UNITA began on Friday, bringing together 1,214 delegates from all provinces.
During the three-day event, participants reviewed the report from the previous legislature, made changes to the statutes, and elected the new Political Commission of Angola’s largest opposition party.
