Africa-Press – Angola. A delegation from the Angolan Institute of Intellectual Property (IAPI) participates from the 6th to the 14th of this month, in Geneva (Switzerland), at the 64th General Assembly of Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
The Angolan delegation, headed by the general director of IAPI, Ana Paula Miguel, also includes the Permanent Representative of Angola to the United Nations Offices in Geneva, Ambassador Margarida Izata.
With this participation, Angola hopes to strengthen its relationship with this specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) in matters of incentive to creative activity, promotion and protection of intellectual property.
According to the agenda adopted, during the 64th of the General Assembly, the report of the activities that took place in the last year (2022) will be presented, as well as a general declaration.
The Group of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) will also present a declaration, given the specificity of all nine nations of the organization that combines various matters such as services, policies and information susceptible to a particular look of WIPO.
The composition of the WIPO Coordination Committee and the Executive Committees of the Paris (France) and Berne (Switzerland) unions will also be made, the composition of the Program and Budget Committee and, finally, the revision of the general and special regulations of the bodies directors of WIPO.
In August 2005, Angola adhered to the Paris International Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and the Cooperation Treaty on patents (PCT). Since July 1984, it has been part of the convention that established WIPO, which was yesterday headed by Daren Tang, from Singapore.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is the global forum for Intellectual Property (IP) services, policy, information and cooperation, a self-funding agency of the United Nations, with 193 Member States, with a mission to lead the development of an international, balanced and effective IP system that allows for innovation and creativity for the benefit of all.
The mandate, governing bodies and procedures are established in the WIPO Convention, since 1967. The main political and decision-making bodies of the organization are the General Assembly and the Coordination Committee.
