Africa-Press – Angola. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced Thursday in Luanda that Angola will begin exporting avocados to the European Union (EU) through the Lobito Corridor on November 25.
According to a press release received, the project is an initiative of the EU’s Global Gateway, which promotes sustainable and inclusive investments in strategic infrastructure.
The Ministry considers this a historic step in the modernization and internationalization of Angolan agriculture. The release also notes that the official launch of the system and the symbolic shipment of the first electronically certified container of avocados will occur at the Port of Lobito.
Digital Certification
The announcement came after a meeting between Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Isaac dos Anjos and a delegation from the Embassy of the Netherlands in Angola.
During the meeting, they discussed the digital certification of the phytosanitary certificate for the first export and the initial use of Angola’s Electronic Phytosanitary Certification System (ePhyto).
Through this partnership, Angola has finished implementing the National Electronic Certification System (GENS/ePhyto), enabling the issuance of paperless electronic phytosanitary certificates in accordance with International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) standards.
This technological and institutional advancement represents a significant improvement for the national agricultural sector by ensuring greater efficiency, transparency, and credibility in export processes.
