Africa-Press – Angola. The national cadet and junior teams, male and female, will debut this Thursday, (July 16) at the African Judo Championships that will take place from the 16th to the 20th of this month, at the Cidadela pavilion in Luanda.

In this edition, the national team is focused on fighting to maintain its place on the podium.

To recall that in the previous edition, in 2024, held in Tunis, Tunisia, through athletes Rosiana Alberto, Yoala Piedade and Calmita Samaba, Angola won three gold medals in the cadet category, while Lopes António and Josué Fernando Adelino Simão conquered silver in the junior category.

In a competition that will feature competitors from 19 countries, Angola will be represented by 65 athletes, 31 male and 34 female.

Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tunisia, South Africa, Senegal, Niger, Mozambique, Morocco, Madagascar, Libya, Guinea, Djibouti, Egypt, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Congo Brazzaville, Cameroon, Burundi and Algeria are the teams that will participate in the competition, including Angola, as the host country.

Athletes will compete in weight categories such as -60 kg, -73 kg, -81 kg, -90 kg, -100 kg, and +100 kg, in men’s category and -48 kg, -52 kg, -70 kg, -78 kg, and +78 kg in women’s.

However, representatives from Tunisia and Morocco are already in Angola for the event, while other participating teams are expected to arrive at any moment.
