Africa-Press – Angola. Angola beat the Czech Republic today, Wednesday, 28-25, in the 1st round (group 4) of the round of 16 of the 27th Women’s Senior Handball World Championship, taking place in Germany and the Netherlands.
At half-time, Angolan national team was already winning 15-13.
In a match that they controlled from start to finish, Angola did their best defensively to prevent successive attacks from the opposing team, in a match in which Albertina Kassoma was elected the most valuable player (MVP), with 9 goals scored.
Vilma Neganga (seven goals) and Juliana Machado (five) also contributed greatly to the triumph.
This was the second official game between both nations, after the Angolan defeat in 2003, in the World Championship, held in Croatia, by 18-24. In between, the two teams had a preparatory game, in France, which ended equal with 31 goals.
Angola will play again on Friday, also at 3:30 pm, against Brazil, and ends the round of 16 against Sweden, on Sunday, at 6 pm.
In the regular phase, the African champions beat Kazakhstan 38-20, South Korea 34-23 and were defeated by Norway, runner-up in the world and European champion, 19-31.
