Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Embassy in Morocco marked the 50th Anniversary of National Independence on Tuesday with a ceremony paying tribute to the first President of the Republic, António Agostinho Neto.
The event took place at the Angolan Diplomatic Mission in Rabat and was marked by the raising of the National Flag and the singing of the National Anthem, in an atmosphere of patriotic exaltation that brought together Angolan diplomats and local officials.
On the occasion, Angola’s ambassador to Morocco, José Filipe, laid a wreath at the bust of President Agostinho Neto, a gesture that symbolised the recognition and continuity of the ideals of freedom, justice and human dignity that inspired the proclamation of National Independence on 11 November 1975.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony, the diplomat highlighted the importance of the date for the consolidation of the sovereignty and unity of the Angolan people, stressing that ‘50 years of independence represent an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment to development and the values bequeathed by the Founder of the Nation.’
The celebrations continue in Morocco with a cultural gala, to be held on the 15th of this month at the Mohammed V Theatre in Rabat.
The event will feature a performance by the Kilandukilu Traditional Ballet and will bring together Moroccan guests, members of the accredited diplomatic corps, cultural partners and members of the Angolan community.
