Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Interior, Manuel Homem, assumed, on Friday, the presidency of the Forum of Ministers of Interior and Internal Administration of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), for a two-year term, replacing his counterpart from Cape Verde.

Speaking at the closing session of the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Forum held in Luanda, the minister expressed satisfaction with the results achieved and praised the commitment of the technical commissions and specialized councils, namely the Chiefs of Police, Directors of Migration and Commanders of Civil Protection and Firefighters, whose actions contributed decisively to the success of the meeting.

“We worked with dedication and efficiency. I hope that everything that was envisioned at this meeting will materialize in practice, for the benefit of the aspirations of our peoples and governments,” said the minister.

Manuel Homem called for a continued strengthened cooperation between Member States and the consolidation of security and stability in the CPLP countries.

During the meeting, participants approved several structuring measures, including the creation of a Network of Officers for Onboard Security, with the aim of strengthening civil aviation security in the countries of the community, and the implementation of an Observatory for Monitoring Crime Prevention and Community Policing Programs.

The formation of a Network of Focal Points for the Control of Weapons and Explosives was also approved to tackle illicit circulation of light and small arms, as well as the development of an Environmental Training Program to empower the forces and services responsible for the protection of sensitive areas and the preservation of the environment.

The meeting also recommended the creation of the Council of Chiefs of Criminal Investigation, which will become part of the permanent structure of the Forum of Ministers of the Interior and Internal Administration of the CPLP.

Among the additional resolutions, the promotion of gender equality stands out, with the introduction of quotas for the participation of women in specialization courses and promotion processes in the police forces and services of member countries.

In the field of mobility and crisis management, the ministers agreed to celebrate memoranda of understanding and bilateral and multilateral agreements on the movement of people and border security, in addition to creating a coordinated intervention mechanism for emergency situations and natural disasters, ensuring rapid and effective responses throughout the Portuguese-speaking community.

The next ministerial meeting of the CPLP Forum will be held in Guinea-Bissau, on a date to be defined through diplomatic channels.
