Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Head of State João Lourenço met on Monday with counterparts from Portugal, Equatorial Guinea, and Cape Verde in separate meetings, with whom he reviewed matters of common interest.

The meetings with presidents, who are in Luanda to participate in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, took place at the Presidential Palace in Cidade Alta, Luanda.

Angola and Portugal

The Portuguese president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, arrived in Luanda on Monday for at the invitation of his counterpart João Lourenço to participate in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the national independence of Angola.

Marcelo de Sousa is accompanied by the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel and a member of parliament from each parliamentary group of the Assembly of the Republic.

The Angolan President, João Lourenço, made an official visit to Portugal between July 25 and 28 of this year, at the invitation of his Portuguese counterpart.

At least 11 cooperation agreements and protocols were signed during the visit in strategic areas such as investment, logistics and transport, training, business internationalization, road safety and civil protection.

The Portuguese government announced, at the time, the reinforcement of the credit line for Portuguese companies to invest in Angola, in an additional amount of 750 million euros, raising the total available to 3.25 billion euros.

Angola and Equatorial Guinea

Relations between Angola and Equatorial Guinea are marked by cooperation in various areas, driven by economic similarities (mainly oil-related) and bilateral agreements.

The partnership ranges from maritime security issues in the Gulf of Guinea to agreements in defense, trade, education, agriculture, fisheries, and visa exemption. The recent creation of the Bilateral Joint Commission in 2022 has spurred the formalization of more than a dozen cooperation instruments.

Angola and Cape Verde

Relations between Angola and Cape Verde are historical and based on fraternity, with continuous efforts to strengthen cooperation in various sectors. The two countries have agreements in areas such as defense, visas, double taxation, and tourism, in addition to collaborating in areas such as labor, social security, culture, and scientific research.

There is a mutual expectation to further deepen economic and cultural ties, including the creation of an Angola-Cape Verde Chamber of Commerce and the re-establishment of direct air links.

João Lourenço also received his counterpart from São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova, and the President of the National Council of the Republic of Algeria, Azaouzi Nasri, the latter in his capacity as special envoy of the Algerian President, Abdelmajid Tebboune.

The relations of friendship and cooperation between Angola and Algeria began during the national liberation struggle against colonial occupation, with Algeria playing a leading and unquestionable role, while cooperation between Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe was formalized in 1978 through an agreement.
