Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço assured on Tuesday that the Angolan government will continue to strengthen the private and cooperative sectors in order to diversify the national economy.

In his address at the 50th anniversary of National Independence, the Head of State emphasized that this focus enables an increase in the supply of goods and services for domestic consumption and export and job opportunities.

According to the president, the government will continue to award medals, especially to those who stand out in different fields of knowledge, such as researchers, startup promoters, and small and large companies.

Held under the motto “Preserving and valuing the achievements reached, building a better future,” Angola celebrates half a century of National Independence on November 11, 2025. The ceremony, which marks the closing of the general program of commemorations, includes three main moments: the Civic Parade, the Military Parade, and the speech by the President of the Republic.

According to the organization, the Civic Parade involves the participation of approximately 6,000 people, representing various sectors of society, such as culture, art, education, health, economy, and industry, in a symbolic tribute to the unity and progress of the country.

The Military Parade brings together approximately 4,500 personnel from the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and the National Police, with demonstrations of technology and military equipment, in an event scheduled to last three hours.

One of the most solemn moments of the celebration was the awarding of the Commemorative Medal for the 50th Anniversary of National Independence (Honorary Class) to Dr. António Agostinho Neto, the proclaimer of Independence and first President of Angola, in a posthumous tribute led by President João Lourenço.

The central event of the festivities marking half a century of Angola’s independence is taking place in Republic Square, in Luanda, before more than 10,000 guests, including 13 Heads of State and Government, representatives of international organizations and the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, and the presence of more than 300 media professionals, both national and foreign.

Angola’s National Independence was proclaimed at 00:00 on November 11, 1975, in what was then Independence Square, in Luanda, under the name of People’s Republic of Angola (RPA).
