Africa-Press – Angola. Five hundred and thirty-one citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were repatriated last week during Operation “Connection” for illegal stay and entry into the national territory.
According to the spokesperson for the provincial command of the National Police in Lunda-Norte, Domingos Muanafumo, who presented the results of the operation, some immigrants were involved in diamond mining, fuel smuggling, and other crimes.
The repatriation of the immigrants, including 73 children, took place at the border posts of Cambamba, Itanda, Furtuna, Txumo, Furi-3, Luia, Marcos-19, 20 and 28, in the municipalities of LoĢvua, Chitato, Dundo, Cambulo and Canzar.
On that occasion, the official warned citizens who rent residences to illegal immigrants, harbor them, or conceal their presence, to cooperate with the authorities by reporting foreigners in this situation, under penalty of being held criminally liable for aiding and abetting.
With 19 municipalities, Lunda Norte shares a 770-kilometer border with the DRC, 600 of which is land and 170 is river.
