Africa-Press – Angola. The first Cazombo Photovoltaic Plant is operating in an experimental phase, with the distribution of electrical energy to homes and the main streets of this capital city in the province of Moxico Leste, created in 2024.
This work by the Angolan Executive, carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Water, is completed and in the final testing phase, and, at this moment, the energy produced through solar panels is already being introduced into the Cazombo electricity grid.
Home connections are also nearing completion and, gradually, the transformation stations are being connected until the city is, in general, supplied with energy from the solar park.
In technical terms, the construction project for this solar park began in February this year and has an installed power of 25.4 MW, with a storage power of 75.264 MW, with 40 thousand and 320 solar panels in its structure.
The new infrastructure will prevent the emission of 37 thousand tons of carbon dioxide per year, saving, in terms of fuel, 9.7 million liters per year and around 4.5 billion kwanzas per year for the State coffers.
The Cazombo photovoltaic solar park will also provide electricity for around 136 thousand inhabitants, bringing this essential asset to thousands of homes.
This solar park is part of a package of projects included in the electrification of 60 locations, including the provinces of Bié, Malanje, Lunda-Norte, Lunda-Sul, Moxico and Moxico Leste, and which will bring electricity to more than one million inhabitants in the eastern region of Angola, whose works are ongoing.
The Cazombo photovoltaic solar park, in socio-economic terms, is of capital importance, marking a decisive step in access to electricity for the citizens of Cazombo, according to government assessments.
It not only provides energy to the province of Moxico Leste, it also brings development to communities, greater access to goods and services, increasing investments in the region, enabling the flourishing of new businesses and employment opportunities and beyond, elevating other sectors to higher levels of development, such as agriculture and industry, boosting the regional economy in general.
It is an infrastructure that reaffirms the Government of Angola’s commitment to the well-being of families and to improving the living conditions of Angolans.
The province of Moxico Leste was created on September 5, 2024 in light of the New Political-Administrative Division of Angola.
