Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-governor of Benguela for the Political, Economic and Social sectors, Lídia Amaro, considers it necessary to expand handball in schools, clubs and communities, to maintain hegemony in Africa (female).
The official was speaking at the opening of the 45th National Women’s Handball Championship, which runs until the 25th of the current month in the cities of Benguela and Lobito.
According to Lídia Amaro, holding this championship is a demonstration of the Angolan Handball Federation’s commitment to making this competition a true national celebration.
The official said that the competition provides a unique opportunity to continue to solidify the bonds of proximity between citizens who vibrate, celebrate and are moved by the plays and goals of this sport.
The vice-governor recalled that women’s handball, through clubs and the national team, has won several titles that make Angolans proud and happy, making us the best team in Africa.
He highlighted that the Angolan Executive, with a view to continuously valuing not only sport but also its practitioners, who are the reason for the sport’s existence, created legal mechanisms and public policies aimed at youth.
He also noted that the Government is also implementing the Strategic Comprehensive Development Plan for the five-year period 2023/2027, with emphasis on the axis that addresses sport in youth and is incorporated in the National Sports Charter, constituting an unequivocal sign of its commitment to promotion of sports practice.
The president of the Angolan Handball Federation, José Amaral “Maninho”, said it was an honor to organize the sport’s celebration in Benguela, because it is a province of sport, in particular handball.
He explained that Benguela has already provided many talents for national handball and, for this reason, they decided to bring the 45th edition of the senior women’s National Championship here.
On the other hand, in the last game of the 1st round, played on Monday night, Casa do Pessoal from Porto do Lobito beat Madjesport from Bengo, 22 – 15, with a favorable score of 14 – 7 at half-time.
CPPL athlete Gerorgina Chivela was named the most valuable player in the “MVP” game.
Today, Tuesday, they play for the 2nd round of groups A and B, starting at 8 am:
