Africa-Press – Angola. The President of India, Draupadi Murmu, arrived in Luanda this Saturday evening, for a state visit to the Republic of Angola, at the invitation of President João Lourenço, in the framework of the reinforcement of the co-operation.
At the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, Draupadi Murmi was welcomed by the Foreign minister Téte António.
The official visit, which happens in the ambit of an invitation that has been made by President João Lourenço, will take place until Nov 12. It happens in a moment of great symbolism for Angola with double significance, i.e, because Angolans are commemorating 50 years of National Independence (on Nov. 11) and the state is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Luanda and New Delhi.
During her stay, Angop has learnt, President Draupadi Murmu will have a meeting with her Angolan counterpart, on Nov. 09, to assess the state of the bilateral relations in the areas of economy, technology, energy, and education. Alongside that, ministerial delegations of both countries will be gathered to review and sign some agreements, among other issues.
Still on Sunday, the Indian Head of State is scheduled to pay homage to the founder of the Angolan Nation, Agostinho Neto, by placing a wreath on his memorial.
On November 11, Ms Murmu will attend the main ceremony in the jubilee commemoration of Angola’s Independence (fifiteth anniversary).
On Wednesday (12), she is to visit the Military History Museum, in Luanda City. For the same day, Ms Murmu’s agenda includes participation in a solemn session of the National Assembly (Angolan parliament), during which she will deliver a message to the Angolan people.
This visit opens a new page in the Angola/India relations, with focus on deepening the bilateral co-operation and friendship ties, as well as strengthening the solidarity between the two peoples.
This visit also happens after President João lourenço visited India six months ago (1-4 May) at the invitation of the Indian staeswoman, during which the Angolan Head of State also held a meeting with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
During that visit to India, the Angolan delegation signed several memorandums of understanding in the domains of agriculture, health, culture, youth, and renewable energies, among other positive results that were achieved.
Angola and India hold diplomatic relations since 1985 which have been reinforced with agreements in strategic areas, with highlight on commerce, investments, crude oil, diamonds, information technologies, and higher education.
