Africa-Press – Angola. One thousand eight hundred faithful from various churches based in Lunda-Sul prayed Friday, in Saurimo, for peace and national reconciliation during an ecumenical thanksgiving service, held within the framework of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, to be celebrated on November 11th.
The event was an initiative of the Provincial Office of Culture and Tourism, in coordination with the Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA).
On the occasion, the provincial director of Culture and Tourism, Felisbela Sapato, praised the event during which 10 choral groups adorned the hall with songs and prayers, for the development of the country and the harmony of families.
He emphasized that the religious service constitutes a historic moment for Angola, in these 50 years of its Independence, which has allowed Angolans to chart their own course, with the construction of numerous infrastructures that contribute to improving the lives of families.Felisbela Sapato hopes that religious congregations will convey a message of hope, love for one’s neighbor, moralization of society, and moral and civic education, as well as actions aimed at preserving public assets built by the Executive branch.
For his part, the pastor of the Kimbanguist Church, João Gonçalves, said that the event exceeded expectations, with a message of unity, reconciliation, and preservation of public assets, since, he explained, students from various schools joined the faithful.
The leader of the Pentecostal Assembly of God Church, Manuel Chilima, also reiterated the importance of rejecting practices of vandalism and looting, safeguarding the search for appropriate tools for the peaceful resolution of social problems that still afflict Angolans. He emphasized that peace and national reconciliation are the main foundations for collective progress, reinforcing the appeal to young people to “drink” from the knowledge of their elders, take care of public assets, and invest in their academic and technical-professional training to help transform the country.
The service, which took place at the Cine Chicapa, was witnessed by the acting provincial governor of Lunda-Sul, Cláudio Pemessa, and other members of the local government, political entities, and judicial bodies, in an emotional atmosphere where many people sang, shed tears, and reflected on the 50th anniversary of Independence.
