Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic and of the African Union (AU), João Lourenço, traveled this morning to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where he will witness the inauguration of his counterpart Alassane Ouattara.

At the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, the Angolan Head of State received farewell greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, and other members of the Government.

The event, which will be attended by numerous figures from African and international politics, is scheduled to take place at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan (Plateau).

This will be the culmination of the electoral process that took place in that northwest African country on October 25th.

The President of Côte d’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, 83, secured a fourth term with 89.77 percent of the vote.

His closest rivals, former Trade Minister Jean-Louis Billon and former First Lady Simone Gbagbo, conceded defeat after obtaining only 3 percent and 2.4 percent of the vote, respectively.

Cooperation between Angola and Côte d’Ivoire is being intensified, focusing on the resumption of direct air links (Luanda-Abidjan) and the signing of several bilateral agreements in areas such as agriculture (cocoa, palm oil), mining, health, transport, defense, and culture.

The objective is to promote trade, investment, and the exchange of experiences, especially in the oil and health sectors.

These advances result from contacts at the highest level, such as the recent state visit of President João Lourenço to Abidjan in June 2024, where 14 legal instruments were signed.
