Africa-Press – Angola. The former head of protocol for the Angolan Agricultural Company (CADA), Mário Huambo, urged young people in Cuanza-Sul this Tuesday to study the contribution of Angola’s first President, António Agostinho Neto, to the liberation and unity of the African peoples.
Mário Huambo, who in 1977 received António Agostinho Neto at Boa Entrada – CADA, Cuanza-Sul province, said it is important for the new generation to continue following the example of the nation’s founder, as he was an essential figure who led the country to the end of Portuguese colonization and promoted initiatives that led to the dissemination and appreciation of African culture.
He stated that Agostinho Neto contributed to the achievement of freedom by the peoples of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, in addition to promoting peace in Southern Africa.
I remember that Agostinho Neto stayed for a week at the former company, located in the current municipality of Boa Entrada, where he met with Angolan ambassadors, such as Paulo Jorge and Venâncio de Moura.
He noted that at that time, in 1977, many people from the municipalities of Sumbe, Porto Amboim, Ebo, Waco Kungo, Quibala, Seles, and Conda traveled to then-CADA to maintain contact with President António Agostinho Neto.Historian Pedro Kataquissa, in turn, stated that António Agostinho Neto’s ideals were transversal, as he was a nationalist, a doctor, a politician, a man of culture, literature, and poetry, whose legacy must continue to be passed on to future generations and beyond.
Born on September 17, 1922, in the village of Caxicane, in the province of Icolo e Bengo, Agostinho Neto was the first President of Angola and proclaimed independence on November 11, 1975.
