Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Angolan Domingos de Carvalho Viana Moreira was re-elected, in New York, as a member of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, for the five-year period 2023-2028.
\n<\/b>
\nGraduated in Marine Geology and Geophysics, Domingos Moreira obtained 116 votes in favor, for a second term starting in July 2023, having been elected for the first time in 2017.<\/p>\n

The election took place, on Wednesday, as part of the work of the 32nd Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, which takes place from the 13th to the 17th of the current month.<\/p>\n

The vote, which continued yesterday, resulted in the election of five representatives from Africa (Angola, Ghana, Madagascar, Morocco and Kenya), five from Asia (China, Philippines, India, Japan and Oman), four from South America and the Caribbean ( Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Trinidad and Tobago), three from Western Europe and other states (Canada, Norway and Portugal) and two from Eastern Europe (Poland and Russia).<\/p>\n

The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf is made up of 21 specialists in the field of Geology, Geophysics or Hydrography, representing all geographic regions, according to a note from the Permanent Mission to the UN to which Jornal de Angola had access.<\/p>\n

The Angolan delegation, which is taking part in the 32nd Meeting of States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, is led by the permanent representative of the Angolan Mission to the UN in New York, Ambassador Maria de Jesus Ferreira, and includes the deputy permanent representative, ambassador Jo\u00e3o Gimolieca; the director of MIREX’s Multilateral Affairs Directorate and Ambassador Jacinto Rangel Neto.<\/p>\n

The Angolan delegation also includes the engineer Domingos Moreira, senior officials of the permanent mission to the UN, in New York, as well as the third secretary Helena Fernando.<\/p>\n

Permanent Mission<\/b><\/p>\n

The Commission on the Boundaries of the Continental Shelf is responsible for formulating recommendations to coastal States on issues related to the establishment of such boundaries, but its recommendations and actions should not prejudice issues relating to the delimitation of boundaries between States with opposite or adjacent coasts.<\/p>\n

Data and other materials submitted by coastal States on the outer limits of the continental shelf in areas where they exceed 200 nautical miles are considered and recommendations are made in accordance with the postulates of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. permanent Angolan status with the UN.<\/p>\n
