Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Foreign Affairs, T\u00e9te Ant\u00f3nio, considered, this Tuesday, in Luanda, that it was necessary to accelerate the training of young people in the Great Lakes Region, with solid knowledge in the field of preventive diplomacy, to contain the conflicts that arise in the countries. of this African region.<\/b><\/p>\n

T\u00e9te Ant\u00f3nio was speaking at the opening session of the seminar on Higher Education and Human Security for the Great Lakes Region, which took place at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “The search for lasting solutions to the conflicts in the Great Lakes region is essential in the scope of preventive diplomacy, seeking, in this way, to give training to the youth”, he underlined.<\/p>\n

He referred that this challenge is posed to the leaders of the countries of the Great Lakes Region, and there is a need, therefore, to be proactive in preparing youth for the job market, mainly in matters related to diplomacy. Minister T\u00e9te Ant\u00f3nio considered it necessary for the region to develop strategies capable of creating economic opportunities with the aim of reorienting education and training systems, based on knowledge, competences, skills, innovation and creativity, within the scope of harmonious and sustainable development to national and continental level.<\/p>\n

“We must do more for our youth, as it is the most important wealth of our countries. Our region will not be stable, secure and developed if youth is left behind”, he stressed, stressing that, as a region, it is necessary to create programs aimed at promoting a culture of innovation and patriotic values.<\/p>\n

According to T\u00e9te Ant\u00f3nio, the Great Lakes Region currently has seven million students in the higher education system, enrolled in science and technology, engineering and mathematics, and that, in total, are less than 20 percent. It is necessary, he continued, that the statistics be improved, and that the situation, in the case of girls, is even worse.<\/p>\n

“We must act quickly and with quality as a region to include and provide greater opportunities for women, especially scientists, and accelerate the enrollment of girls in science, technology, engineering and mathematics”, he said.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, T\u00e9te Ant\u00f3nio, assured those present that the initiative to improve education for young people in the Great Lakes Region will continue under the leadership of President Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o, as acting President of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region. Lagos (CIRGL).<\/p>\n

He added that other initiatives aimed at promoting education for youth in the region will continue, with actions being carried out within the scope of sports days, culture and arts festivals, where people meet and develop knowledge and exchange techniques and other knowledges. “The exchange between peoples can also occur in the field of entrepreneurship”, concluded the minister T\u00e9te Ant\u00f3nio.<\/p>\n
