{"id":10405,"date":"2022-06-22T11:45:45","date_gmt":"2022-06-22T11:45:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/protests-mark-delivery-of-unita-candidacy"},"modified":"2022-06-22T13:01:09","modified_gmt":"2022-06-22T13:01:09","slug":"protests-mark-delivery-of-unita-candidacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/angola\/all-news\/protests-mark-delivery-of-unita-candidacy","title":{"rendered":"Protests mark delivery of UNITA candidacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Angola. <\/strong><\/span><b>The delivery of UNITA&#8217;s candidacy to the Constitutional Court (TC), within the framework of the party&#8217;s participation in the General Elections of 24 August, was marked, this Tuesday, by protests from a group of supporters who repudiated the inclusion of politician Abel Chivukuvuku on the list of candidates for deputies to the National Assembly.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The group of demonstrators stood in front of the premises of the Constitutional Court, displaying posters with the following words: &#8220;Abel Chivukuvuku and his followers on the UNITA list are not&#8221;, &#8220;Abel Chivukuvuku is not welcome at UNITA&#8221;, &#8220;The party is not ACJ&#8217;s property to do and undo&#8221;, and &#8220;Don&#8217;t make UNITA the means to save lazy people&#8221;. The action took place precisely at the time when the party&#8217;s campaign representative, Hor\u00e1cio Junjuvile, and the secretary-general of this political organization, \u00c1lvaro Daniel, were delivering to the TC of no less than 15,500 subscriptions that the law determines, to guarantee the participation of political parties and coalitions in the electoral process.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the press at the end of the ceremony, the party&#8217;s secretary general confirmed Adalberto da Costa J\u00fanior as head of UNITA&#8217;s list for the fifth General Elections next August, and politician Abel Epalanga Chivukuvuku as second on the list.<\/p>\n<p>He also mentioned that the list includes names of various sensitivities in the political and business world, and others linked to political organizations and members of civil society. Quite clearly contrary to the wishes of the demonstrators present at the TC, \u00c1lvaro Daniel replied that they &#8220;are free to think, but UNITA is also free to outline and implement its strategy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The secretary general of UNITA stressed that his party&#8217;s candidacy is a victory and represents a generational transition.
