Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>African Ambassadors accredited to the Arab Republic of Egypt received detailed explanations on the preparations for the General Elections on 24 August. The Angolan representative underlined that the country is fulfilling, with the holding of the fifth elections, a fundamental stage in its political path, positioning itself in the concert of nations as a democratic and lawful State.<\/b><\/p>\n

Nelson Cosme made it known that the country has created all the conditions to collect, for the first time, the vote in the diaspora, in an election that has 14,399,391 registered voters, 14,376,831 in national territory and 22,560 abroad.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, which welcomed ambassadors from 45 African Union (AU) member states, with representation in Egypt, Ambassador Nelson Cosme also referred that, in the last five years, the Executive has focused efforts on consolidating the Democratic State and Law, implementing a set of institutional and economic reforms, which are substantially guaranteeing the application of citizens’ fundamental rights and freedoms.<\/p>\n

Along these lines, the construction of a dynamic and efficient market economy is underway, with controlled and sustainable public finances. The reforms, he stressed, were associated with economic growth, increased employment, income, with a focus on the well-being of populations. “The fight against corruption, carried out by the Angolan authorities, counts on the collaboration of international institutions, in particular from sister African countries”, stressed the Angolan diplomat.<\/p>\n

The Executive, with the implementation of the reforms, intends to ensure the development of the private sector, to promote human capital, the creation of qualified employment, as well as to configure a work framework with a remuneration that matches the cost of living. The program also includes national defense, in its various domains, said the diplomat.<\/p>\n

With regard to the reform of Justice, Neslon Cosme highlighted the implementation of the new judicial map, as well as the approval of new legislation on the organization and functioning of the courts, both under common jurisdiction and under specialized jurisdiction.<\/p>\n

Foreign Policy and International Cooperation<\/b><\/p>\n

Ambassador Nelson Cosme underlined that Angola attaches particular importance to peace and stability on the continent, and has sought to lend its experience and solidarity to African peoples in conflict situations, “not only through bilateral actions, but, above all, in the context of multilateral framework, at the level of the structures of the African Union, SADC, ECCAS, and the CIRGL”.<\/p>\n

He referred that in recent years, the political and diplomatic action of Angola has focused, especially, on actions at the presidency level of the CIRGL, where he has been a valid mediator in the pacification process of the CAR and the DRC. The meeting was co-chaired by the ambassador of Cameroon, Mohamadou Labarang, as dean of the group.<\/p>\n
