Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angolan Intendant Sara Domingos Tom\u00e1s de Almeida has been part of the contingent of personnel from the United Nations Peace Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) since 30 June, which marks Angola’s debut in activities of this kind, says a note from the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Women.<\/b><\/p>\n

Sara de Almeida was qualified in the training of police officers, promoted by the Police Division of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations, from 14 to 25 February this year, at the Ankara Police Academy, in Turkey. On 30 June, the Police officer joined Chief Superintendent Jos\u00e9 Valente Pimp\u00e3o, also from the National Police, at UNMISS.<\/p>\n

The deployment of National Police officers to UNMISS follows the contacts between the Police Division of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Permanent Mission of Angola to the UN in New York, in the light of the Law on Contingent Dispatch. Angolan Military and Paramilitary to the Peacekeeping Missions Abroad, approved by the National Assembly, in May of last year.<\/p>\n

As a result of these contacts, in the context of the materialization of the intention of the Angolan Executive, regarding the insertion of Angolan staff in international organizations, in October 2021, Angola received a visit from the United Nations delegation, headed by the UN Undersecretary for Peace Operations , Jean-Pierre Lacroix. During the visit, Angola expressed its willingness to join UN peacekeeping missions, having requested insertion in the Peace Readiness and Capacity Intervention System (PCRS), in the structures of the Office of Military Affairs and the United Nations Police Division. , gender participation, in line with Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of State for the Family and Promotion of Women, Elsa B\u00e1rber, received yesterday, in audience, the president of the Network of Women Policemen of Angola, Maria Elisabeth Raque Franque, with whom she discussed the issue of implementation of the Action Plan of Resolution 1325. of the UN Security Council on Women, Peace and Security.<\/p>\n

In terms of this document, the defense and security forces play an important role in the materialization and fulfillment of strategic objectives, as well as in uniting and expanding global efforts in defense of women’s human rights.<\/p>\n

A note from the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women’s Promotion states that, during yesterday’s meeting, Elisabeth Raque Franque praised the feat achieved by Angola of starting to contribute to peacekeeping activities at international level, under the aegis of the United Nations. , with the inclusion of two officers of the National Police in the contingent of personnel of the United Nations Peace Mission in South Sudan.<\/p>\n

The Secretary of State for the Family and Promotion of Women expressed her willingness to work with women in defense and security bodies, basing the strategic partnership with permanent joint actions.<\/p>\n
