Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The seven-day national mourning decreed by the Head of State in memory of the former President of the Republic, Jos\u00e9 Eduardo dos Santos, ends at midnight today.<\/b><\/p>\n

Yesterday, the day was reserved for the tributes of political parties, former combatants and veterans of the country, deputies and officials of the National Assembly, as well as representatives of civil society.<\/p>\n

In an atmosphere of great consternation, former combatants burst into tears as they approached the portrait of Jos\u00e9 Eduardo dos Santos, where they laid flowers. There were even those who could not sign the condolence book.<\/p>\n

During the last few days, hundreds of people, including politicians, ecclesiastical entities, diplomats, representatives of non-governmental organizations, associations, doctors, nurses, teachers, workers from garbage operators and employees of public and private institutions, flocked to Pra\u00e7a da Rep\u00fablica to pay tribute to the former Head of State.<\/p>\n

Since the official opening of the book of condolences, by the President of the Republic, Jo\u00e3o Louren\u00e7o, faithful of recognized churches in the country have been present at the place, singing praises that transmit peace, tranquility and refreshment to the soul.<\/p>\n

More than 30 choir groups also passed through Pra\u00e7a da Rep\u00fablica, at the Dr Ant\u00f3nio Agostinho Neto Memorial. All with the same objective: to thank God for the time that allowed the physical presence of Jos\u00e9 Eduardo dos Santos among the Angolans, said, yesterday, the Reverend Francisco Domingos Sebasti\u00e3o, pastor-president of the Pentecostal Assembly of God of Maculusso, in Luanda.<\/p>\n

Lu\u00edsa Dami\u00e3o: “He was a promoter of peace”<\/p>\n

Lu\u00edsa Dami\u00e3o, vice president of the MPLA, went yesterday to pay tribute to the former Head of State. The deputy also described Jos\u00e9 Eduardo dos Santos as “a son of Angola, a patriot who, from a very early age, embraced the party’s ideals, assuming its leadership and that of the country, at the age of 37”.<\/p>\n
