Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The presentation of the report on the business environment in Angola, today, by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Victor Fernandes, will be one of the highlights of the 9th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFTA), taking place , since Monday, in the city of Accra, capital of the Republic of Ghana.
\n<\/b>
\nThe procedures for removing obstacles and preparing conditions for greater fluidity of preferential trade between African countries will also be under analysis. The Angolan delegation was appointed as rapporteur for Southern Africa, while Egypt and Nigeria are the rapporteurs for their respective regions.<\/p>\n

Under the motto “Steps towards the start of significant trade under the AfCFTA”, the event will also serve to highlight economic aspects related to trade in goods (access to markets), regulation of special economic zones (ZEE), technical barriers to trade and non-tariff barriers, rules of origin, trade in services, among other diplomas to be addressed.<\/p>\n

The analysis of the report of the 11th meeting of the Committee of Senior Trade Officials and issues related to rules of origin are among the topics to be addressed at the event chaired by Gabon.<\/p>\n

The AFTA chief negotiator for Angola, Rui Livramento, said that the fact that the Angolan economy is going through a period of structural transformation, with several investments in the industry sector “will allow small and medium-sized industries to place themselves in a strategic position of supplies in regional and continental value chains, taking into account the 1.3 billion inhabitants across the continent”.<\/p>\n

Rui Livramento believes that Angola’s inclusion in the AFTA represents an important step towards the implementation of the Agreement with the submission of the Tariff Offer Proposal (List of Concessions), resulting from a long process of national consultations, with a view to implementing the Agreement in line with with the Market Trade Protocol.<\/p>\n

“The progressive tariff reduction will be made progressively by the States. In the case of Angola, in particular, as it is a less advanced country, it is expected that some fees in the presentation of the main list will reduce up to 0 percent in 2033”, said Rui Livramento .<\/p>\n

The Agreement creating the African Continental Free Trade Area was founded in 2018 and effectively took effect on January 1, 2021. Currently, it has 43 States Parties, which represents about 80 percent of the 54 signatory countries of the aforementioned agreement. . The objective is to promote trade between African countries.<\/p>\n

The first day of work was marked by the signing ceremony of an Agreement between the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the AfCFTA, in addition to the presentation of the Secretary-General’s Report on the current status of the AfCFTA, the analysis of the results of the 11th Meeting Committee of Senior Trade Officials, as well as the 5th Meeting of Directors General of Customs.<\/p>\n
