Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Thirty journalists from different media, public and private, from the province of Huambo, improved their knowledge about media and elections, in an action promoted, on Tuesday, by the Journalists Training Center (CEFOJOR) in partnership with the Provincial Office of Social Communication.<\/b><\/p>\n

The training action took place in the auditorium of the Provincial Government of Huambo, via Zoom, as part of the upcoming General Elections on 24 August. Lasting one day, the event brought together 30 professionals.<\/p>\n

Trainer Geraldo Quiala recalled that respect for sources and the plurality of opinions must characterize the work of the journalist, in order to achieve excellence in the scope of professional ethics.<\/p>\n

“The class must not abdicate the importance it has for the stability of the country, especially in an election year, but must play a fundamental role in the coverage and dissemination of all actions of competing political formations, until the publication of the final results of the election, hence the need to be guided by impartiality\u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n

According to the trainer, the ongoing electoral campaign requires journalists to remain equitable in relation to political actors, so that at the end of the process they are not accused of influencing the results that will dictate the winning party.<\/p>\n

Geraldo Quiala insisted on the importance of the class to improve knowledge for the current challenges, always informing with exemption and responsibility for the success of the electoral process.<\/p>\n

The director of the Provincial Social Communication Office said, in turn, that the training action, in addition to refreshing knowledge that journalists already mastered, always brings something new, like other recent experiences of electoral coverage.<\/p>\n

Pereira Santana made it known that, regardless of the circumstances and working conditions, journalists in Huambo must, during the elections, perform their role with professionalism, interpreting well the daily life of an electoral campaign. It must not fall into the sensationalism and messages of violence from competitors.<\/p>\n

“The more journalists master the main instruments of law, the easier they will be to serve citizens in this electoral process”, he said, stressing that ethics and pluralism must always be present.<\/p>\n

Journalist Felismina das Dores, from R\u00e1dio Nacional de Angola (RNA), in Huambo, said that the seminar on electoral coverage was an asset for the class, because training is always one of the bets of those who want to see their staff ” equipped\u201d with tools to master their field of action.<\/p>\n

Journalist Marcelo Franck, said, in turn, that the training action was positive, considering himself more apt to cover the 24 August elections, within the parameters required by the profession. “Updating more knowledge about the media in elections, in the search for transparency for better treatment and equality of political parties, is an asset”, he said in conclusion.<\/p>\n
