The revelation was made yesterday in Luanda by the director of the Department of Global Studies and Maritime Affairs at California State University, Assis Malaquias, when he made his virtual speech at the II Conference on Blue Economy, promoted by the magazine Economia & Mercado, emphasizing the fact that Angola has an “enviable strategic position, with a long coastline rich in resources, some to be explored and others still to be explored”.<\/p>\n

Assis Malaquias valued the executive’s initiative in formulating the National Strategy for the Sea because, in his view, when these are properly managed, they will provide society with essential products to strengthen development efforts, which represents the essential basis for stability and sustainable peace.<\/p>\n

The academic stressed that the country must clearly define its national strategy, focusing on achieving decent conditions of existence, an underlying advent of peaceful development, that is, economic stability, which includes security both on land and at sea. .<\/p>\n

Security, in the view of Assis Malaquias, cannot be achieved without development, so the National Strategy for the Sea must assume the full incorporation of the maritime dimension, in a perspective of the present and the future, in terms of opportunities as well as challenges. linked to the maritime space.<\/p>\n

“Angola has directed considerable attention and resources to achieving internal security, which is not the case in the maritime domain. The role of the navy should not be neglected, because, even if there is no forecast of an external invasion in the future, we are faced with a large number of foreign vessels fishing in Angolan territorial waters\u201d, he revealed.<\/p>\n
