Study, Planning and Statistics (GEPE) of the Ministry of Education.

Irene Neto, who was speaking during the Workshop on the Results of the Evaluation of the Education Sector Emergency Response Plan for Covid-19 in the Country, highlighted, to worsen the situation, many children did not have access to tele-classes, due to lack electricity in the communities where they live.

The study by the Ministry of Education, carried out in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), which lasted eight months, covered 100 schools in the country as a sample, where some problems were observed, despite the reinforcement of the education system through media, especially radio and television.

The GEPE director explained that the study was carried out to provide the best indicators for the sector, with a view to improving certain educational methods in the country.

Irene Neto also added that the province of Luanda was the one with the highest number of male students dropping out.

In terms of training, the Education sector recorded that about 43% of children, between 12 and 17 years old, completed primary education and 40% of minors (aged between 8 and 11 years old) are academically behind.

Irene Neto said that the results of the study will be used to support decision-making and define strategies that aim to provide the right to the ability to access quality education.

Worldwide, according to UNICEF/Angola representative Ivan Yerovi, almost 153 million children have lost more than half of face-to-face education in the last two years, with more than 62 million of them having lost at least three quarters of face-to-face education, the equivalent to two trillion hours.

He also referred that the impact of the pandemic in Angola affected considerable positive results in Education, which had already been achieved over the last 20 years, with the increase in enrollments in the different education subsystems and that the scenario was challenging.

In the case of Angola, Ivan Yerovi said that the negative impact would be greater if strategic actions were not taken by the Executive, such as the timely reopening of schools, implementation of distance learning and measures to prevent the pandemic.

The official said that the analysis is part of an initiative developed across southern and eastern Africa, which provides for assessments on safe and inclusive reintegration into schools across the post-Covid-19 region.

The diplomat stressed that the impact of Covid-19 was not restricted to the Education sector, but sought to touch on other factors that, in some way, affect Education, such as drought, food insecurity, water, hygiene and sanitation. .

“Distance learning presented challenges in terms of guaranteeing that it reaches the entire student population, including teachers, but on the other hand, it was possible to verify that the offer of alternative education measures that allow recovering and accelerating learning continues to be of extremely important”, he assured.

For More News And Analysis About Angola Follow Africa-Press

Africa-Press – Angola.
