Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The head of the Military Intelligence and Security Service, General Jo\u00e3o Pereira Massano, considered this Sunday that remembering the historical legacy of the former Popular Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA) is crucial, stressing that, in order to \u201cnot forget the history , even if it was painful, we must assume it\u201d.
\n<\/b>
\nGeneral Jo\u00e3o Massano says, regarding the 47 years of formation of the extinct FAPLA, which is highlighted today, that, on this date, it is necessary to rethink the trajectory of this body, as an army that contributed a lot to the defense of the country.<\/p>\n

The former national army, the extinct Popular Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA), was founded on August 1, 1974 and, in 1991, together with the UNITA military forces, gave rise to the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) , within the framework of the Bicesse Peace Accords, signed by the Government and UNITA.<\/p>\n

According to General Jo\u00e3o Massano, the FAPLA have always been loyal to the country, faithful to the aims of the struggle for peace, fulfilling the role that marked their time. “It’s not about nostalgia, unrestrained nostalgia, as we have been saying throughout these times, when we talked about FAPLA memories”, he stressed, adding that “it is, yes, a manifestation around our history”.<\/p>\n

For the general, the intention is to narrate the story without constraints of any kind, transform the facts into reality and organize the history so that future generations do not forget the paths through which the struggle for the maintenance of the physical integrity of Angolans will have passed.<\/p>\n

He made it known that re-editing the historical legacy of the former FAPLA in memory is to recognize that all the characters who were part of this great military institution are real, and not fictional.<\/p>\n

“We must face the heroism of the FAPLA, whatever the origins of its personnel, its true political and military essence, this institution quickly passed into the social memory of Angolans, for having constituted its armed wing for decades,” he concluded.<\/p>\n
