Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angolans residing in the city of Oshakati, in the Oshana Region, expressed their expectation of voting, for the first time, in the general elections of 24 August.<\/b><\/p>\n

Some Angolans with active electoral capacity and residing in that neighboring country expressed their anxiety to be able to exercise their right to vote.<\/p>\n

Angolan citizens in the diaspora will be able to vote, for the first time, in these elections, as a result of the constitutional review carried out by the National Assembly, on the initiative of the President of the Republic.<\/p>\n

Raquel Tchipalanga, who has lived in Namibia for 15 years, said that voting is the most important tool of democracy and, for that, candidates in the August 24 elections are expected to present their governance programs honestly.<\/p>\n

During the electoral campaign period, he continued, it is essential that the parties transmit their plan, so that, in a conscious way, Angolans can vote for the party that will lead the country’s destiny.<\/p>\n

For the Angolan Eliseu Francisco, 35 years old, 15 of which live in the city of Oshakati, the vote will allow him to choose the leaders of his country. He admitted that for Angolans residing abroad the expectation of voting is high, because, for the first time, they will be able to choose the President of the Republic.<\/p>\n

Alberto Katambue, 51, expressed his willingness to fulfill his civic and patriotic duty at the polls.<\/p>\n

He said he hopes that every Angolan who lives abroad, is of electoral age and who has registered with similar bodies, will participate in this process, in a massive and orderly manner, in order to contribute to the consolidation of democracy.<\/p>\n

Jo\u00e3o Alfredo, 63, recalled that he did not vote in the 2017 elections, because Angolans abroad were not allowed to exercise this right, but now that he can, he is anxiously awaiting the 24th of August for the exercise of the vote.<\/p>\n

Jorge Manuel declared that elections are won at the polls, through the vote, and, for this purpose, the participation of all citizens in this process is necessary.<\/p>\n

Its expectation is that candidates are responsible and honest with their electoral manifesto, so that voters can make the right choice, in favor of the people’s well-being.<\/p>\n

According to data from the Consulate General of Angola in the district of Oshakati, 30,196 Angolan residents are controlled, of which 384 voters have been registered and are in a position to cast their vote.<\/p>\n

“There will be only one assembly and one polling station, which will be set up at the Consulate”, said a source at the consulate.<\/p>\n

Angola has already held four elections, in 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017, all without the participation of the diaspora.<\/p>\n

This will be the fifth vote in the country’s history, for which more than 14 million voters are registered, of which 22,500 are in the diaspora.<\/p>\n

For the vote on 24 August, seven political parties and a coalition are running.<\/p>\n
