Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The writer Beni Dya Mbaxi, literary pseudonym of Bernardo Afonso, will present Saturday and Sunday the books \u201cA \u00daltima Masoxi\u201d and \u201cA Menina da Burca\u201d, in a sales session and autograph signing, at Xyami Retail, in Benguela.<\/b><\/p>\n

The search for new markets and the exchange of experiences in the universe of letters is the focus of the writer, who started with a tour last week to the provinces of Huambo and Bi\u00e9.<\/p>\n

The writer assured that the purpose of the tour through the mentioned provinces is to promote debates on domestic violence and other social problems.<\/p>\n

Beni Dya Mbaxi considers the Angolan literary market “challenging” and offering opportunities due to the diversity of works presented by young writers. Literary generations, he said, develop with the production, editing and publication of books.<\/p>\n

“Previous generations also went through this process. We just need incentives and policies that help to promote books and reading in communities,” he said.<\/p>\n

Beni Dya Mbaxi informed that the book “The Last Masoxi”, awarded in South Africa with the Global African Writers Award 2021, was selected to compete in the Best Novel category of the “Strong Woman African Literature Award”, in Botswana.<\/p>\n

The winner will be known in January 2023, through a vote of four judges. In October, he stressed, the semi-finalists are determined by public voting. The award is a tribute to Botswana writer Paula Otukile.<\/p>\n

The book tells the story of Masoxi, a woman who was a victim of sexual abuse, mistreatment and false imprisonment during her childhood. “Masoxi, as a child, lived with her mother, a drug addict, and with her stepfather. It was an emotionally unstable home, so she felt it was her responsibility to take care of her mother, even though she was so young”, explains the author.<\/p>\n

It was at age 11, after the death of his mother, he said, that Masoxi’s lifestyle deteriorated. “She was put in false imprisonment and sexually abused by her stepfather for years. She went through cruel and traumatizing experiences.”<\/p>\n

“The Burka Girl”<\/b><\/p>\n

The problem of conflicts in marital relationships, the lack of complicity has led to the breakup of many couples. This is a proposal reflected in the book “A Menina da Burca”, which tells the “story of two young women who are persecuted by their ex-partners. Even with so many persecutions and embarrassing moments, they struggle with the possessive love and hate on the part of their former companions\u201d.<\/p>\n

Beni Dya Mbaxi explains that the character Jordin, is a young Angolan woman who grew up in one of the orphanages in Luanda and Aladadi, a young Pakistani, who emigrated to the country, due to the submission of women in her country. “Destiny brought them together, they go through difficult times, in a Luanda undergoing reconstruction after the civil war, Aladadi and Jordin, although, pursued by their ex-companions, never gave up on life”.<\/p>\n

Beni Dya Mbaxi, pseudonym of Bernardo Sebasti\u00e3o Afonso, was born in Luanda, in the municipality of Cazenga, on May 28, 1997. He is a student of Portuguese Language and Communication at the Methodist University of Angola (UMA). He was awarded the “Revelation Writer of the Year 2021” award at Moda Cazenga “By Luandina”.<\/p>\n
