Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The UNITA candidate for President of the Republic, Adalberto Costa J\u00fanior, was received, Wednesday (17), by the bishop of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World (Toco\u00edstas), with whom he discussed issues related to the General Elections, of the 24th of this month.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to a party source, Adalberto Costa J\u00fanior, who was campaigning in Ndalatando the day before, took advantage of yesterday for audiences with different personalities, including the Tocoist leader, Dom Afonso Nunes.<\/p>\n

The source of Jornal de Angola added that Adalberto Costa J\u00fanior also reserved today for hearings, without, however, revealing the names of the entities with which the UNITA candidate will talk.<\/p>\n

American Ambassador received by Adalberto<\/b><\/p>\n

Yesterday, the president of UNITA received, in audiences, the US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, with whom he discussed the current situation in the country, with emphasis on the elections.<\/p>\n

A note from the US Embassy distributed after the meeting requested by the US ambassador states that that country has been working for a long time to strengthen democracy and promote respect for human rights throughout the world.<\/p>\n

In fact, he adds, Ambassador Tulinabo Mushingi is meeting with the leaders of the political formations represented in the National Assembly, and it was UNITA’s turn yesterday, whose president was accompanied by the leader of the Democratic Bloc, Filomeno Vieira Lopes, and Abel Chivukuvuku. The meeting allowed the American diplomat “to learn more about the party’s vision for Angola”.<\/p>\n

“In democracy, we listen to all voices to understand the diverse perspectives that each party brings to the table. We believe that strong democracies make for more peaceful, prosperous, and stable nations. Democracies also make stronger partners for the United States as we that we work together to face the world’s most pressing international challenges, from combating the climate crisis to preventing a probable pandemic”, reads the note from the American Embassy.<\/p>\n

The document stresses that “the US Embassy supports the democratic process in Angola and encourages all political voices to contribute to free, fair and transparent elections” on 24 August.<\/p>\n
