Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, the permanent representative of the Republic of Angola to the United Nations in New York and her counterpart in Barbados signed the agreement to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries, on behalf of their respective countries governments.<\/b><\/p>\n

Ambassadors Maria de Jesus Ferreira and Fran\u00e7ois Jackman signed the legal instrument, which symbolizes the beginning of the establishment of bilateral relations that are intended to expand to other sectors.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, Fran\u00e7ois Jackman, quoted in a press release from the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Angola to the United Nations, expressed his satisfaction with the important step that the two countries are taking with a view to establishing relations that can be mutually beneficial.<\/p>\n

In her turn, Maria de Jesus Ferreira stated that the act represents the commitment that the two Governments assume in the sense of working towards the development of friendship and cooperation relations.<\/p>\n

The ambassador took the opportunity to praise the decision of the Government of Barbados to exempt visas from entry to that country to all categories of the Angolan passport, which took place on 28 July this year.<\/p>\n

The signing ceremony of the agreement to establish diplomatic relations between the Republic of Angola and Barbados took place at the premises of the Permanent Mission of Barbados and was witnessed by officials from the two representatives accredited to the UN. Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas and the easternmost of the Caribbean islands. It occupies an area of \u200b\u200b432 km2 and has a population of around 287,000, predominantly of African descent. Bridgetown is the nation’s capital.<\/p>\n

On 30 November 1966, the country became an independent state and a member of the Commonwealth with Elizabeth II as Queen of Barbados. After 55 years, on 30 November 2021, Barbados transitioned to a Republic. Although technically an Atlantic island, Barbados is closely associated with the Caribbean and is ranked as a top tourist destination.<\/p>\n
